HHC 7.3.2 for IOS expected out today

We're pleased to announce that HHC 7.3.2 for IOS was submitted to Apple on December 20th for publishing, and we expect to be available later today for download.
This version focused primarily on bug fixes, UI issues, and sync enhancements. We want to thank the many international beta testers that provided valuable feedback in preparation for this release.
As our loyal subscribers know, HHC underwent a complete rewrite in the summer to prepare for future builds, and this process was difficult. Many of the lessons from the past had to be relearned, but we believe the program now has a better foundation to support features like Opportunities, Secondary Contacts, and Custom Tables.
Stay tuned as we expect to release support for Opportunities & Secondary Contacts next month.

Handheld Contact v7.2 for IOS submitted to Apple

We're pleased to announce that on Friday, September 8th, Handheld Contact submitted their latest build to Apple, (HHC v7.2 for IOS), that we expect to be available for download from the App Store sometime over this weekend. This build has been in production for months, and is by far the most expensive and comprehensive HHC release in recent years. HHC 7.2 represents a substantial rewrite of the calendar, contact, and task list features of the product, and includes many new features that we think our subscribers will enjoy.

These new features include the following:

  1. Added "Keyword" search - you can now search through most of the contacts, activities, notes and histories fields. The Keyword Search will be position at the top of the Home Screen for easy access.
  2. Added "Share" option in View contact screen that allows you to share contact's information through vCard or plain text with available apps on your phone. Imagine the ease with which you'll be able to refer one of your contacts to a colleague. Perfect for networkers!
  3. Added "Save search as" option in Searches, to allow you to create many similar searches without having to create each from scratch. We've also included additional search operators to enhance your query capabilities.
  4. The calendar now supports colour coded activities for easier calendar navigation
  5. Added ability to easily swipe left a contact for new options like "Delete". More options will be accessible with swiping left in subsequent releases.
  6. Our new Alerts feature now provides you one place to look for daily or weekly upcoming events, and advises you of upcoming Annual Events like Birthdays or Anniversaries. Don't miss an important event again with HHC alerts!
  7. Subscription Reminder: Expiry reminder pop up added (14 days before expiry), notifying users when their HHC renewal is approaching.

Other changes in this build:

  1. Enhanced security of product and improved account management tools
  2. Complete architecture change for Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks Lists to improve performance and provide a better foundation for future feature growth in these areas.
  3. A fully redesigned and optimized settings page
  4. Orientation set to Portrait only for phones. Tablets keep both orientation modes
  5. Edit option for notes and history removed from menu, but user can still create Notes and History items on the phone.
  6. "Save text messages to Act!" - set to true by default
  7. Redesigned Contact edit page for easier and faster entry of new contacts

Turn your mobile phone into a business card scanner

One of the most exciting new features of Handheld Contact v3 for Android and v7 for IOS is the ability to import contacts from your devices native address book. Handheld Contact developed this new "importer" feature to allow users to take contacts they just recently scanned with an application like CamCard or BCR.

The process is simple.

  1. Use a business card reader application of your choice - the two we mentioned above have worked well in our testing
  2. After that is complete, launch Handheld Contact, and from your Home screen, click "Import" in IOS, and in Android, click Contacts, and then "Import Contacts" from the upper right pull-down menu
  3. This will launch a filtered view of your mobile address book with IOS devices, showing only the contacts created in the last week in descending order. Android users will see the whole list of local contacts
  4. IOS users can simply select the top contact, or a multi-selections of contacts, and then click "Next", and your select contact(s) will instantly be imported into HHC, and by extension Act! when you sync.
  5. For Android users, scroll down to your imported contact(s), select, and then click "Import" at the upper right.

It's that easy.

A mobile App should do more than extend your CRM

... it should complete it.

A CRM application can do many things for your business, but if it tethers the users to their desktops, it will never realize its full potential. This is why all CRMs must have a mobile application to enable the users in and out of the office, and for Act!, that application is Handheld Contact.

For those that think this is a predictable declaration from the company that makes Handheld Contact, you might be right, but consider this statistic. Not only has Handheld Contact been around 15 years, but it also has a churn rate that is less than half that of the Act! CRM program itself, meaning user loyalty to the mobile application actually exceeds the data source it relies upon. By any standard, this is a remarkable statistic and one that certainly underscores the importance of the mobile side of the CRM industry, but it does not tell the whole story.

If it were simply about mobile access, the history of Act! would not be littered with so many failed mobile apps. No, for a mobile app to be useful, it must do more than simply extend access to the data, it must extend the functionality, as well, and Handheld Contact does precisely that. We describe this principle as “function-follows-find”, and we believe it’s at the core of our longevity, and why Handheld Contact is the exclusive mobile Act! product sold on www.act.com.
